Join us in the fight against hunger September 1 and 2
Education and food are two of life's most basic necessities. Without them, children and adults have trouble learning, focusing, and creating a better future for themselves. Want to make a difference? Join United Way for Southeastern Michigan on September 1 and 2 to help distribute backpacks full of school supplies as well as food bags to residents, caregivers, parents in the Brightmoor community. Run for a cause with us at the Detroit Marathon
Can you run and help transform our region at the same time: Leadership Next members say they can! For the third year, United Way is a Charity of Choice for the Detroit Free Press Marathon on Sunday, October 16, 2011. This means that participants can run/walk on behalf of United Way. Help Leadership Next raise $1,000 towards transforming Greater Detroit into one of the top five places to live and work by 2030!
Join other Leadership Next members as they participate in the 5k. Register online now at http://tinyurl.com/43ba52x. The registration fee is only $35. Please be sure to select United Way for Southeastern Michigan in both the “Please designate a Personal Charity” and the “OFFICIAL CHARITY PARTNERS” fields during the event registration process. *Please note the $35 registration fee is not a donation to United Way rather it helps the Free Press to cover the costs associated with the event.

Join us for our Family Volunteer Day on October 1
Nearly 1 in 4 Michigan homes with children are threatened with hunger. Hungry children suffer developmentally, educationally, & financially from food insecurity. Join us for Leadership Next's Family Volunteer Day on October 1 to help combat this growing epidemic. We'll meet at Gleaners Community Food Bank to pack food boxes that will be distributed to local food pantries. Your entire family is invited and encouraged to attend. Volunteer Leadership program
Interested in expanding your personal and professional networks while making a difference in the region? Then this is the right opportunity for you! Join us in making Greater Detroit one of the top five places to live and work by 2030 by signing up for the Loaned Ambassador track of our Volunteer Leadership Program.
As a Loaned Ambassador, you will speak to a variety of groups from intimate settings with senior leaders to large gatherings of employees about current issues facing our region and United Way’s strategies to turn metro Detroit around. Training is provided (scheduled for September 13 -15, 2011).

New member reception
Save the date for our New Member Reception to be held on Thursday, October 6. This will be an opportunity for new members to meet other Leadership Next members over drinks and appetizers at the new Fountain Bistro in Campus Martius.
CEOs: Off the Record
Go ahead - call it a come back! Ever wonder what ever happened to the Leadership Next Off the Record events? We are excited to announce that they'll be back shortly with an improved format! Designed to promote interaction between emerging leaders and regional leaders in candid discussions that address past, present and future regional issues, solutions, shortcomings and opportunities, these events have historically been limited to corporate executive leaders. Well, that is about to change! The new Off the Record series will rotate leaders from each sector: corporate, public and nonprofit.
Coffee with United Way's leadership
A group of Leadership Next members will be invited to a private coffee discussion with United Way for Southeastern Michigan’s leadership to discuss regional issues, strategies and opportunities to make metro Detroit one of the top five places to live and work by 2030. This event will be part of a series of opportunities offered exclusively to members who have donated $500 or more in the past calendar year.

These tours are opportunities for you to see, first-hand, how United Way for Southeastern Michigan is working to is make metro Detroit one of the top five places to live and work by 2030. Tours last about 60 minutes and take place at United Way for Southeastern Michigan’s headquarters overlooking Campus Martius in downtown Detroit.
