CIS seeks to expand its successful readetroit corps in support of United Way’s Operation ABC. The ABC/readetroit corps (ABC/rdc) will utilize hundreds of volunteers to deliver literacy support services to first and second graders in twenty Wayne County schools. Students who have been identified by teachers as reading below grade level will benefit from one-on-one tutoring, small group and computer assisted tutorials, on-going assessments, individualized progress plans, learning incentives, parent/child learning opportunities, literacy field trips/assemblies/special events, and the distribution of books. ABC/rdc will help to meet the goal of every child reading at grade level by third grade.
