Gleaners will partner with Fish & Loaves, a coalition of faith-based organizations working Downriver, to establish a client choice pantry at its Taylor distribution center. “Client choice” is a model for delivering emergency food; it reduces waste, improves access to food, and provides a dignified setting for families and working poor people to access food and other services. It is also cheaper to operate annually than a traditional pantry, providing savings in staff and transportation and, most importantly, eliminating the need for multiple facilities. All of these savings are then used to provide more food to underserved areas.
