Neighborhood Service Organization

"To reduce youth violence and substance abuse, Neighborhood Service Organization proposes to use its Youth Initiatives Project, a highly successful youth leadership program, to provide male-based and female-based leadership training that will have a culturally sensitive component specific to the needs of the participants. The goal of the program is to elicit the support of at-risk youth (ages 13-18) to change attitudes of their peers concerning drugs and violence. Program activities will support Educational Preparedness principles that will allow youth to stay in school and pursue higher education, vocational or entrepreneurship aspirations."

Neighborhood Service Organization (NSO) Harper-Gratiot Multi Service Center (HGMSC) will provide: 1)reception, intake assessment and information & referral 2) case management; 3) advocate for customers with THAW, State Department of Human Services & services for food, shelter, clothing, legal assistance and other basic needs; 4) continue to assist, advocate, network and collaborate w/residents of Hmong and other ethnic communities; 5) provide a facility that houses programs and services that assist the community (City of Detroit WIC Program and United Children & Family Head Start); 6) recruit new tenants to provide services identified as needed by the community.
